I have the honour to transmit for your consideration the enclosed copy of an application from Messrs. Cunha and Lopes 2nd. and Assistant Clerks in the Treasury, requesting that they may be permitted to draw the maximum salary attached to their offices.

2. I attach minutes from the Acting Colonial Secretary and Acting Colonial Treasurer on the question, and I am prepared to recommend for your sanction that as they have served for 10 and 8 years respectively in the same offices in the Treasury, they should be allowed to count their service before 1901 as three years' service towards the ten years which will be necessary before they can draw the full amount of salary attached to their offices.

3. If you allow this privilege I propose that they be allowed to draw the corresponding salary from 1st July next.
